SOTR 2010 – What I’m going to see

The premier UK ColdFusion conference Scotch on the Rocks 2010 is less than 2 weeks away!

I’m starting to get excited. My flights are booked. My hotel is confirmed (and it’s all of 2 minutes away which is nice) and I’ve got my selection of geek t-shirts picked out. The laptop is loaded and cleaned down ready to rock some remote CF action.

The only thing left for me to do was select which sessions I wanted to see. Some of the choices were easy. I’m not really a Flex / Air guy so a lot of the RIA stuff, whilst interesting, isn’t exactly relevant.

I did struggle with the choice between the Railo 4 session and the HTML 5 / CSS 3 stuff but my Railo interest is strictly personal and, as I’m not paying for my ticket, I felt it better to see what wonders the next generation of HTML / CSS has to offer.

So here are my current session choices:

Day 1
Slot Session
10:15-11:15 Mastering the ColdFusion Application Framework – Ben Nadel (Epicenter Consulting)
11:30-12:30 A whistlestop tour of HTML5 and CSS3 – Chris Mills (Opera)
13:30-14:30 Measuring Performance Improvements In ColdFusion Applications With Effective N-Tier Caching – Mike Brunt (go2ria)
14:45-15:45 Creating and using ColdFusion portlets – Mark van Hedel (Prisma IT)
16:00-17:00 Supercharge your ColdFusionBuilder – Ray Camden (FirstComp)
Day 2
Slot Session
09:00-10:00 ColdBox Platform 3.0.0 : Developing Sustainable ColdFusion Applications – Luis Majano (Ortus Solutions)
10:15-11:15 AJAX is the answer to everything and we never need to worry again and life is full of unicorns! – Ray Camden (FirstComp)
11:30-12:30 SQL to HQL – John Whish (Crisp eBuisness)
13:30-14:30 Cloudy with a chance of Caching and Clustering – Mark Drew (Railo)
14:45-15:45 Productive Work Environment / Practices – Peter Bell (Railo)
16:00-17:00 Advanced ORM – Terry Ryan (Adobe)

(note these selections may change depending on my mood on the day, the phase of the moon, the colour of my pants)

Please understand that I would, where that I could, happily attend all the sessions at the same time as I’m certain they’ll all be very useful, informative, engaging and entertaining.

Finally, I’m attending the conference on my own so if any of you fancy … you know … talking to me then it would be greatly appreciated!
